Your Guide

Robert Weeks is a seasoned fishing pro with roots in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia, where he started fishing alongside his father Ernie as a kid. From dockside smelt catches to assisting his dad on tuna boats (ask him about Ernie’s world record tuna!), Robert’s fishing journey was diverse. After relocating to Vancouver Island, BC with his wife, he ventured into guiding, quickly earning a stellar reputation. Five years in, he bought his own boat and founded East Coaster Sportfishing. Robert’s love for both Nova Scotia’s East Coast and Vancouver Island drove him to create this business, which he balances with his role in the Canadian Coast Guard, ensuring safety at sea. Join us for an unforgettable fishing experience with a pro who also prioritizes your safety!

When Robert is unavailable we also have our trusted retired Coast Guard & fellow Guide, Tom, available for your charters.

We provide life jackets on board but recommend that you bring your own, ensuring they fit correctly and are comfortable, especially for children.

If you require special accommodations, please inform us at least 48 hours before your charter, and we’ll do our best to arrange them for your comfort.

We suggest guests bring weather-appropriate clothing, including a light sweater or jacket even on sunny days due to potential chilly winds. We have a porta potty on board for guest use. If you plan to travel after your charter, bring a cooler with ice to keep your fish fresh.

Fishing License & Cleaning

All taking part in the trip are required to have a valid fishing license, including children. All guests must print their license and retain a paper copy on their person during the tour, as well as a salmon stamp.

If you would like your fish vacuum packed, smoked, or candied, we recommend High Tide Seafoods in Campbell River. We use them personally and highly recommend them!

“Rob is an amazing guide!  He was continually putting us in the right spots to get the bites on.  All the other boats were saying it was fairly slow this week, but we were slaying them consistently!!  Many good size Springs, a Coho, a 30lb Halibut, a Ling Cod and even a Red Snapper!  We would have had many more if we were more talented/experienced fishermen!  We had the greatest time this week and Rob was one of the biggest parts of that!  He will be our first call when we set up our next trip.”

“This was one of the best fishing charters I have taken. I booked a 5 hour charter for myself and my Alberta in-laws and Rob didn’t disappoint! 10 minutes from the time we had the rods in the water until the time we left to come home the fish were non-stop. We were a bit worried to start as our first fish was too big to keep but we soon had our limit in legal size fish and kept doing catch and release for the last hour.  My in-laws, who haven’t visited for 15 years, are now talking about returning every year! Is that a good thing….? Lol. Thanks again Rob!”
